Birmingham, UK, Interaction Design Association – IxDA.org

The IxDA Manifesto: We believe that the human condition is increasingly challenged by poor experiences. IxDA intends to improve the human condition by advancing the discipline of Interaction Design. To do this, we foster a community of people that choose to come together to support this intention. IxDA relies on individual initiative, contribution, sharing and self-organisation as the primary means for us to achieve our goals.

Birmingham IxDA Meetup 3: Designing Bowling Alleys

The last meeting of Birmingham Interaction Design Association involved a design challenge, set to us by one of our members. We have made the the brief available in PDF format which detailed designing a bowling alley accessible to the blind. We were presented with the brief at the beginning of the session, with no prior knowledge.

So we had an hour, in three groups of three, to design bowling alleys for the partially sighted. All at hand were pens and paper – no laptops, computers, etc.

The following video shows what we came up with, after an hour of throwing around ideas (and a lot of editing the video I shot at the session).

After the session, a quick Youtube search found that blind people do bowl quite easily, with the minimum of tweaking to the system.
